Serge Sorokko is breathing new life into Union Square. His gallery will mark its reopening with a U.S. premiere this Thursday March 17th. The exhibition will feature the paintings and sculptures of Isabelle de Borchgrave.
Sorokko spoke of Borchgrave's work stopping him in his tracks at the Museo Fortuny in Venice. He said "In my 30 years in the art world, there was nothing more difficult and exquisite than discovering an artist so glaringly original..."
The Belgium born Borchgrave has a career that spans four decades. She began nurturing her love of art at the tender age of 14. Fashion was always at the center of her endeavors but over time a specialty in textile design emerged.
Within the past 17 years Borchgrave has gained international acclaim for her work in paper costume design. Her devotion to the technique and artistry of her craft has lead to the first complete exhibition of her work by an American Museum. Pulp Fashion as it's titled is currently on display at the Legion of Honor through June 5th.
The art of fashion is not new to the Sorokko family. In October, Serge's wife Tatiana Sorokko, celebrated the lauch of her stateside exhibition and book Extending the Runway. The two will welcome a VIP guest list to view Isabelle de Borchgrave's latest works which include delicate paper interpretations of textiles translated to canvas, sculptures, and other mixed media.
