Sorokko Gallery Brings the Worlds of Hunt Slonem to SF

Angella Sprauve, Haute Living, January 27, 2013

Birds, butterflies, rabbits and nature live vividely through the stunning lens of Hunt Slonem.

The world-renowned artist from New York brings his large-scale installation of Neo-Expressionist paintings to the Serge Sorokko Gallery on January 31.  This exhibit marks Slonem’s long anticipated return to the Serge Sorokko Gallery since 1997.

In the exhibit aptly named, “The Worlds of Hunt Slonem”, Slonem shows his affinity for nature with dramatic paintings of endangered rain forests, including tropical birds and exotic butterflies among many creatures of nature. Layered with thick brushstrokes, Slonem’s jubilant paintings convey the expressive faculties of vivid colors and pivot between the fantastic and the natural. Worlds includes more than 30 impressive oil paintings on canvas and wood – many of them adorned with ornate antique frames.

Slonem’s fantastical interpretations of nature were the inspiration for the book “The Worlds of Hunt Slonem” published in 2011, which gained acclaim from critics across the country. The renowned painter’s work can be found in the collections of over 100 museums worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim in New York.

A private reception will be held on January 30 from 6-8pm at the Serge Sorokko Gallery. Worlds will remain on view through March 2, 2013.
