Artist Hunt Slonem Hops into SF with "Bunnies" at Sorokko Gallery

Carolyne Zinko, SFGate, March 22, 2014

New York City artist Hunt Slonem, whose works are collected by celebrities including Cameron Diaz and is known for his paintings of plants and landscapes, architecture and saints, birds and butterflies, drew art aficionados and lapin lovers to a signing of his new art book and exhibition at the Serge Sorokko Gallery in San Francisco on Thursday. It was just in time for Easter, but a variety of wines — not Peeps — were served.

"Bunnies," by Hunt Slonem, Bruce Helender and John Berendt (Glitterati Incorporated,

256 pages) was released March 15, and was snapped up by guests including entrepreneur/restaurateur James Nichols, Derek Barnes, COO of Executive Networks, and Scott Nelson, a tax consulting firm owner, with Jill Harris of Inform Body and creator of Inform technique workout, who rescue rabbits. They have five at home right now (that's dedication) and said bunnies can be litter box trained and homes can be bunny-proofed, lest they nibble on your electrical cords.

Others, including business consultant Julian Chang and arts patrons Pamala and Ted Deikel eyed the art — bunny paintings in the "Quantum Leap" exhibition. While some considered the art to be sweet and cuddly, Chang wasn't so sure the bunnies didn't have a sinister edge. "Look at the eyes," he said, pointing to a midnight blue painting with bunnies outlined in white. "They all looking right at you."
