The Last Party
The Village Voice, April 15, 1997

Way too much of a good thing, this look at 20th century nightlife includes 261 pictures by everyone from Avedon and Arbus to Warhol and Winogrand with a vast amount of less-than-stellar material in between. Maybe this excess was intended to reflect the show's subject, but, with a salon-style hanging on two floors, it's easy to miss the great shots (like Ted Croner's Madison Square Garden horse show or David LaChapelle's foam-filled Ibiza club) and get lost in paparazzi dreck. Question: what is Irving Penn

studio portrait of a Hell's Angel and his bike doing here? Waiting for Cher? Through 5/10. Serge Sorokko, 430 W Bway, 941-8888.
