The best in nouveau-retro: high-tack decor at Cheetah

The winner of the best nouveau-retro party of the week was the one for a photo show connected with Anthony Haden-Guest's popular Studio 54 book, The Last Party. The soiree was held at Cheetah—the old Sound Factory Bar—which has been redone in high-tack, with fake foliage, kitsch art, a fountain, and everything but a guy in a fruited hat singing "Tangerine." Gathered around the sumptuous buffet, there were people I thought had died, some who should have died, and a few I never believed actually existed. As all the fabulous survivors piled in, Haden-Guest sat at a faux-leopard banquette and declared, "Everything old is new again." Except for my inner thighs.
