Over thirty paintings by the British artist Stephen Sumner are currently on view at the Tsereteli Galleries of The Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Stephen Sumner sees light both as it relates to the material and metaphysical worlds. His visual expression of the complexity of the environmental effects through light and air stands as one of his most notable artistic achievements.
This is Sumner's first one-person show in Moscow, although his name is well known in the West. He was born in Blackpool, England, in 1959, and received a professional artistic education at the Blackpool College of Art, continuing his studies at the University of Leeds. Sumner's artistic career began as a graphic artist, later becoming an art director for a group of magazines. He has been painting as a main occupation since 1994. The artist has lived and worked in New York since 1996.
