Tatiana Sorokko, who styled the feature on Elizabeth Taylor in the current issue of Harper's Bazaar, says that Taylor's magic has a lot to do with timing. Sorokko watched her tape a greeting to be shown at Elton John's wedding, noticing the long pause Taylor took before she started to speak. "You almost felt like, oh God, she forgot her lines," but the timing was strategic, to keep listeners alert. "When you take a pose, you hold it, until everyone gets so irritated that they can't sit still on their chairs ... then you start talking." In keeping with this, the magazine crew had waited for five hours for Taylor to emerge for the shoot. "We forgave that," says Sorokko. "It just comes with the territory."

P.S.: Serge Sorokko, Tatiana's husband and art gallery owner, will be featuring photographs by designer James Galanos in a show to open Sept. 21. The Sorokkos, Galanos, designer Ralph Rucci, Denise Hale and Bazaar editor Glenda Bailey traveled to Russia together recently, and a picture of them appears in the latest issue. Bailey writes that they all look as though they've eaten Faberge eggs.
