Stephen Sumner: New Works

San Francisco Sentinel, Novembre 20, 2008

Acclaimed British artist Stephen Sumner will return to San Francisco's Serge Sorokko Gallery for the launch exhibition and unveiling of Stephen Sumner: New Works, the artist's newest collection of contemplative and deeply soulful paintings. The exhibition, a U.S. premier, consists of 20 remarkable new landscapes and will be on view from November 19 through December 20, with a private reception for the artist on the night of the debut. This new collection will mark the second U.S premier of Stephen Sumner's works at Serge Sorokko Gallery, where he is undoubtedly a San Francisco favorite.

Celebrated as an intellectual colorist, Sumner is best known for his minimalist oils that focus primarily on imaginary landscapes and the delicate nuances of light and color. His paintings are subtle and monochromatic, and his masterly use of light, shading and blending thoroughly permeate his landscapes with a poetic quality. With his rare ability to work from memory, Sumner's exquisitely painted recollections create unforgettable, mirage-like visions that are deeply reflective and charged with emotion.

"It is with great pleasure, indeed, that we introduce Stephen Sumner's latest work to audiences in the United States," said gallery owner Serge Sorokko of Stephen Sumner's upcoming exhibition. "His unique imagination and subtle use of color and light set him apart from many other contemporary artists. We are happy to exhibit his extraordinary paintings again."

The Serge Sorokko Gallery is located at 231 Grant Avenue in San Francisco and can be visited on the Web at sorokko.com.
