Albers - LeWitt - Forg

Three artists. Three generations. Three different approaches to minimalism. Josef Albers (1888-1976) is one of the original masters of color theory, moving from the influential Bauhaus in Germany to the United States, where he taught at Black Mountain College in North Carolina and Yale University. A generation younger, Sol LeWitt (b. 1928) approached minimalist forms with a conceptual bent. To him the idea behind the artwork was the key; the execution was secondary. Gunther Forg (b. 1952) a young German artist, is intrigued by minimalism but clearly distrustful of it in its purist form, so he has added texture at a further attempt at meaning.
