Recent Paintings and Works on Paper
Serge Sorokko Gallery is pleased to present Ralph Rucci: Recent Paintings and Works on Paper. Ralph Rucci, one of the top haute couture designers working today, is also an accomplished visual artist. Rucci’s paintings and drawings synthesize his interest in both expressionist and minimalist tendencies of modernist art. Engaging in a visual dialogue with such contemporary masters as Cy Twombly and Richard Serra, Antoni Tapies and Pierre Soulages - artists who are similarly involved in this language of gestural abstraction, Ralph Rucci adds to this mix a distinctive Japanese-inspired aesthetic. He also incorporates the literal language of fashion - fabric - into many of the pieces. The result is often large-scale works that are simultaneously imposing and understated with a delicately defined and unmistakable presence. This is the first gallery exhibition of Ralph Rucci’s artwork.
