Stephen Sumner: New Works
PREMIER EXHIBITION of Stephen Sumner: New Works at Serge Sorokko Gallery
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 3, 2008) –A NEW collection of contemplative and deeply soulful PAINTINGS BY acclaimed British artist Stephen Sumner WILL BE UNVEILED AT San Francisco’s Serge Sorokko Gallery. THE EXHIBITION, a U.S. premiere, consists of 20 remarkable new landscapes, and will be on view from November 19 through January 5, with a private reception for the artist on November 19th, from 6 to 8 in the evening. The Serge Sorokko Gallery is located at 231 Grant Avenue in San Francisco and can be visited on the Web at www.sorokko.com.
“It is with great pleasure, indeed, that we introduce Stephen Sumner’s latest work to audiences in the United States,” said gallery owner Serge Sorokko. “His unique imagination and subtle use of color and light set him apart from many other contemporary artists. We are happy to exhibit his extraordinary paintings again.”
Sumner is best known for his minimalist oils that focus primarily on imaginary landscapes and the delicate nuances of light and color. Celebrated as an intellectual colorist, Sumner’s paintings are monochromatic and his masterly use of light, shading and blending permeate his landscapes with a poetic quality. With his rare ability to work from memory, his exquisitely painted recollections create unforgettable, mirage-like visions that are deeply reflective and charged with emotion.
