SERGE SOROKKO GALLERY Announces the Unveiling of Isabelle de Borchgrave: New Paintings and Sculptures
Works on Display from March 20 through April 20, 2013
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 26, 2013) – Serge Sorokko Gallery announced today that it would host the U.S. premiere of Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave’s very latest creations. The exhibition entitled “Isabelle de Borchgrave: New Paintings and Sculptures” will open to the public on March 20, 2013 and remain on view through April 20.
Internationally renowned, Isabelle de Borchgrave was the subject of the Legion of Honor Museum’s critically acclaimed recent exhibition, Pulp Fashion: The Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave. She is exclusively represented in the U.S. by the Serge Sorokko Gallery and will be in attendance at a private opening reception at the gallery on March 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
“I am very excited to introduce Isabelle de Borchgraves remarkable new work to audiences in the United States,” said gallery owner Serge Sorokko. “Her unique imagination and use of unconventional materials allow her to produce stunning effects of scintillating color, shape, and texture that set her apart from other contemporary artists. We are thrilled to exhibit her extraordinary works again.”
Isabelle de Borchgrave: Recent Paintings and Sculptures will include over 25 paintings and works on paper, as well as bronze and paper sculptures. The exhibition will mark the first time de Borchgrave’s bronzes are being displayed in the United States.
Largely inspired by her travels and the rich textures and colors of ethnic textiles, de Borchgrave creates a magical world of beauty that is entirely her own. Her remarkable tromp l’oeil works on paper transport her audiences to an altogether different time and place. “Isabelle de Borchgrave freely shares her adventures in beauty – a beauty that, beneath her gaze and from her fingertips, pours out unstintingly,” observes the The World of Interiors. "Isabelle is one of a kind," declares the illustrious French couturier Hubert de Givenchy, "she plays with paper as a virtuoso plays an instrument."
The Serge Sorokko Gallery is located at 55 Geary Street, in San Francisco and can be visited on the Web at www.sorokko.com. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Telephone: 415 421-7770.
