Biography

Born 1942, Sicily; Lives in New York City and Milan.

Marco Glaviano began his artistic career with a degree in architecture from the University of Palermo. While working as a set designer and playing in a jazz group, he began to experiment with photography. In 1967, Glaviano decided to devote himself to photography full time and moved to Rome and then Milan.  The photographer worked for eight years, establishing his studio there. As he garnered more and more success and his photographs began appearing in the best European fashion magazines, Glaviano decided he needed to be in New York. He moved there in 1975 and set up his atelier.Glaviano's work has appeared in all the top fashion magazines, including on over 300 covers. Cindy Crawford chose him to be the exclusive photographer for all her swimsuit calendars. Glaviano has also published five books of his work: Models: Sittings 1978-1988, 1988, Photographs, 1989, Elles, 1999, Sirens, 2003, La Palermo di Glaviano, 2007. The photographer occasionally works in film and video as well. Glaviano continues to make luscious photographs, comprising work in fashion, portraits of musicians, and landscapes. His photography can be found in collections worldwide.
