   Yuri Kuper

Born 1940, Moscow, Russia; lives in France and New York City

Yuri Kuper’s work is steeped in time, memory, and silence. Kuper was born in Russia in 1940 and was put through a very formal and painstaking beaux-arts training. He was permitted to immigrate to Israel at the age of 32, soon thereafter moving to London and finally settling in France. He currently has a countryhouse in Normandy and a second studio in New York City.

Kuper is a self proclaimed “professional player with surfaces.” The plain objects used in his paintings and mixed media work – a spoon, a palette, a table – are presented with skill and reverence. Yuri Kuper’s work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Staaliche Museen Preusshicher Kulturbesitz, Berlin, and The Achenbach Foundation at the Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, among others. In 2008, his paintings were featured at the Bouquinerie de l'Institut, Paris at the MWFAF 2008.
